Job Purpose:
The Logistics Supervisor supports the planning and execution of logistics operations, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies. This role plays a key part in day-to-day supervision of transportation processes and team performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support daily transportation and logistics operations for the site.
- Implement and uphold Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring all team members are properly trained and follow protocol.
- Process load quote requests from customers (e.G., Trader Joe s), ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and professionalism.
- Guide Dispatch Agents in carrier selection, communication, and customer service to maximize efficiency and satisfaction.
- Maintain clear communication with customers regarding shipment status and delivery timelines.
- Serve as a key point of contact for carrier relations, building a reliable network of transportation partners.
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation, reporting, and system updates for all shipments.
- Assist in negotiating rates and terms with shippers and carriers as needed.
- Track and evaluate carrier performance, addressing issues and supporting improvements in logistics services.
- Troubleshoot and resolve shipment or staffing issues that may arise during operations.
- Support employee development and help drive a positive, performance-driven team culture.
- Step in as needed to maintain workflow in the absence of team members or other leads.
- Participate in meetings, and be available for weekends, holidays, or emergencies as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Flexibility to work graveyard shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
- Strong leadership and team supervision skills, with experience in coaching and performance management.
- Excellent time management, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Familiarity with TMS (Transportation Management Systems) and tools like TruckMate, PC Miler, Fleetmatics, or RoadNet preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to analyze logistics data, track performance, and suggest improvements.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
- Degree in Logistics, Transportation, or related field preferred;OR
- 5+ years of experience in logistics/transportation, including routing, customer service, and operational procedures.
- 2+ years in a supervisor, lead, or coordinator role in transportation or traffic operations.
- Solid understanding of DOT regulations, weight/load specs, and industry standards.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Must be able to stand or sit for extended periods.
- Ability to move throughout a warehouse/distribution environment.
- Comfortable working in varied temperature settings.
- Ability to climb stairs and access all warehouse levels as needed.
